ARTISTS IN RESIDENCY
Performing landscapes:
Stefania Crișan and Isolde Venrooy

Greylight Projects and IKOB – Museum für Zeitgenössische Kunst are pleased to announce the artists chosen for the 2023 Very Contemporary “performing landscapes” residency: Stefania Crișan and Isolde Venrooy by the selection committee consisting of Brenda Guesnet (conservator IKOB museum, Eupen), Guus van Engelshoven (conservator museum de Domijnen, Sittard) and Roy Voragen (curator, Greylight Projects) for the Performing Landscapes Residencies. We received around 70 applications, all with an interesting and different approach to the questions raised by the open call.


Both artists will work at Greylight Projects in Heerlen, NL between March and May 2023, developing a new project to be publicly presented at the “performing landscapes” festival on 2nd September 2023, taking place at IKOB. The event is a collaboration between the different institutions of the Very Contemporary network.

Isolde Venrooy (b. 1977 in Rosmalen, NL, lives and works in Nijmegen, NL) works with objects, interventions and walks to form an artistic practice that is rooted in ecological thinking and making. Together with participants, co-authors, friends and passers-by, she experiments with forms of collaboration, exploring, giving and receiving. Venrooy‘s work has been exhibited at TENT in Rotterdam, Zone2Source in Amsterdam and De Fabriek Eindhoven, among other places, and her artistic practice is supported by the Mondriaan Fund.

Stefania Crișan (b. 1993, Timisoara, RO, lives and works in Metz, FR) is interested in themes connected to the anthropocene, questioning the paradoxes between the horror and the beauty of catastrophe. Her practice is marked by a landscape that was devastated through ecological disaster, that of the village of Geamăna in Romania, deliberately flooded in the 1970s and turned into a settling pond for copper mining activities. Crișan is the winner of the 2022 Luxembourg Encouragement for Artists Prize (LEAP) and has exhibited at FRAC Lorraine, Casino Luxembourg, Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken and Centre Pompidou-Metz.
